Riverdale Season 5 on Netflix: When Will the Filming Start Again?

Over the four seasons of the show, Riverdale has garnered a lot of popularity. Finding its basis in Archie Comics, the CW’s production puts Jughead and his friends into a cynical world where you witness teens run casinos and fight off bears because they can! The showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa had, at one point of time, also considered turning the show into a zombie apocalypse. Whether or not he does it, that is not sure, but no matter what, the show does not look like it will die anytime soon.  Not only is the show an Arrowverse line-up but has also come to be defined as the CW’s flagship shows, all thanks to Archie Andrew and his refusal to don a shirt.

The sheer popularity of the series ensures the official announcement of the fifth season of the show. The fifth season of Netflix’s Riverdale is not expected to begin before 2021. Season four’s last episode was cut short and ended with a major cliffhanger which is why the fans are eager to see what happens next. The fifth season most definitely involves a prom that everyone is looking forward to, and it will surely be very dramatic. The delay can be blamed upon Coronavirus since the global pandemic has disrupted the filming of the series with KJ Apa, Cole Sprouse, and Lili Reinhart. The shooting had to be halted in March 2020, and there is no saying as to when filming can be resumed.

Camila Mendes, who plays the part of Veronica Lodge in the show has given a little information about the recommencement of the shooting and the future of the new season. The audience will have to be a lot more patient. A lot of productions, including Riverdale’s, might be forced to cut some scenes from episodes due to losses incurred during the lockdown period. The fact that USA coronavirus cases are at an all-time high does not instil much confidence in the fans regarding the future filming of the show. The primary shoot location for the show in Vancouver, Canada. Mendes said that the fact that Canada has tackled very well with the pandemic and this might let them resume the shooting sooner rather than later. She stated that the cast might be back on the set in early September.

It was confirmed by Deadline magazine website, where they quoted the production on their expectation to start the shooting in late August or early September. The fans can expect to see KJ Apa, Cole Sprouse, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Casey Cott, Vanessa Morgan, Madelaine Petsch and Charles Melton back on-screen. But Skeet Ulrich will not resume his role as Jughead’s father. Ulrich took to Instagram Live to state that he “got bored creatively”. Before they can be allowed on the set, the crew will have to comply with the 14-day quarantine mandate. USA and Canada have sealed their borders, and it will stay that way till at least 21st of July which may prove to be a barrier for the production team.

It may not be easy to speculate what will happen in the fifth season, but the fans know that Archie will continue with his aversion to clothes, the world will witness Betty’s dark side again, and Veronica will continue to prove herself as the world’s youngest business tycoon.
